Apprenticeship Role
Level 3 Heritage Engineering Marine Technician

The Pioneer Trust is widely recognised for the quality of work on heritage restoration projects. The Trust works with organisations such as the National Lottery Heritage Fund and private owners, to rebuild a range of important and interesting working vessels.
To support this work, Pioneer Sailing Trust is the leading provider of marine apprenticeships, training young people in boatbuilding, engineering and other skills to support their personal ambitions to pursue a career in the marine sector and build a resilient workforce for future generations.
Job Specification
Whilst working on real projects in a workshop environment, apprentices learn the skills to work on the yard’s speciality; the restoration of historic vessels and the wooden and fibreglass Harker’s Yard gigs.
The ideal apprentice is someone who likes working in a practical, hands-on environment. This role would suit somebody with an interest in boat-building, eager to learn skills with woodwork, fibreglass and metal. An interest in marine engineering would also be beneficial, as this course focuses on all aspects of heritage boat restoration. Having sailing experience is also an advantage, but not essential.

We can provide advice and guidance on contracts, funding and wages. Alternatively, please check the Government’s National Apprentice wages webpage for up to date information.
