Level Best

Each year, the Pioneer Sailing Trust partners with Level Best — a social enterprise run by the Dacon Trust — to offer trainees an inspiring day aboard the historic sailing vessel Pioneer CK18. The experience extends Level Best’s mission of growth and creativity out onto the water, giving participants the chance to learn new skills, build confidence, and experience the teamwork and freedom of traditional sailing.

Partnership in Action: The Pioneer Sailing Trust and Level Best

Each year, the Pioneer Sailing Trust is proud to partner with Level Best, a social enterprise project founded by the Dacon Trust, to offer their service users a truly unique and inspiring experience on board the historic sailing vessel Pioneer CK18.

Level Best exists to provide meaningful work skills training and personal development opportunities for adults and young people with learning disabilities. Based in their vibrant Colchester hub, Level Best Trainees are encouraged to reach their full potential — or their “Level Best” — through a wide range of creative and practical activities. Whether they are growing, making, baking or creating, the trainees develop confidence, independence, and a strong sense of achievement, supported every step of the way by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers.

Through our ongoing partnership, Level Best participants have the chance to extend that spirit of discovery and teamwork out onto the water. Sailing aboard the Pioneer CK18 offers a new environment where trainees can challenge themselves, work as part of a crew, and experience the joy and freedom of life at sea. For many, it is their first time on a traditional sailing vessel — an adventure that builds self-belief and leaves lasting memories.

The partnership between Level Best and the Pioneer Sailing Trust exemplifies the power of collaboration. By combining practical learning with adventure, we are helping trainees develop transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and resilience. Each voyage strengthens our shared commitment to inclusion, opportunity, and empowerment — proving that, with the right support and encouragement, everyone can achieve their own “Level Best.”

Thank you, I had a great time.
