The Outhouse

A long-standing partnership that brings adventure, confidence, and community spirit to life aboard Pioneer CK18. Years of shared voyages with The Outhouse—where opportunity, inclusion, and unforgettable adventures set sail; where shared values meet open waters. Together with The Outhouse, we’ve turned day sails and residential voyages into annual highlights—and a partnership that keeps growing.

The Outhouse

Empowering LGBTQ+ Youth Through Sailing and Adventure: The Outhouse and Pioneer Sailing Trust

Pioneer Sailing Trust has worked in partnership with The Outhouse on multiple occasions over the years, offering their service users both day sails and residential voyages aboard Pioneer CK18, our restored historic oyster-smack skillinger. These trips have become a highlight for The Outhouse community, who look forward to sailing with us each year—and we equally look forward to welcoming them back on board. The partnership continues to grow, built on shared values of opportunity, adventure, and inclusion.

The Outhouse in Colchester is a registered charity (no. 1006244) providing vital opportunities for LGBTQ+ people throughout Essex. Their mission is to support LGBTQ+ individuals in finding community, building confidence, and achieving their full potential. Acting as a rounded resource of support, The Outhouse offers a range of core services, including Community Engagement—addressing the mental, emotional, and social needs of adults, young people, and their support networks; Counselling—delivered with confidentiality and a deep understanding of the nuances within the LGBTQ+ community; and Training—bespoke programmes designed to help individuals and organisations create safe, inclusive spaces through awareness and education.

We are currently fundraising for a ten-day sailing trip to Europe for one of The Outhouse’s youth groups, scheduled to take place in July 2026. This ambitious voyage will offer young people a unique opportunity to build confidence, independence, and unforgettable memories. For many participants, it will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience—especially for those who have never had the chance to travel abroad. Your support will help us make this transformative journey a reality.

“Thank you, genuinely I look forward to these trips every year but most importantly you help everyone feel safe and comfortable and have inspired one particular person into a career in sailing, which has kept him going.”
