Jinnie

Jinnie was an oyster skiff built in 1948 in West Mersea for local fisherman Edwin Richard Hayward.

Jinnie

Jinnie’s Story

Jinnie was the first boat built at Wyatt’s after World War 2, when the main boat-builder was Jack Emeny, however the wood used to build Jinnie was not that great as it was in short supply after the war. Luckily in 2018, Jinnie was given by Richard Hayward to us here at The Pioneer Sailing Trust in Brightlingsea.

Following a successful application for the National Lottery Heritage Fund to restore Jinnie, we’ve been able to get started this year with the restoration. We estimate that the project will take a couple of years and be used as a learning projects for our apprentices.

How You Can Help

Donations, however small are very much needed and will be greatly appreciated.

Your support could help cover the costs for our organisations who might like to bring groups of up to 12 sailing on Pioneer CK18.

Anyone who might like to help out in some way, or has a good idea as to how they might help an organisation such as ourselves will be welcome.
Please contact us on 01206 303373 or email us. Thank you!
